Root Canal Therapy

Root canal treatment is a procedure designed to save a tooth that has been severely infected or damaged. When the inner pulp of a tooth becomes inflamed or infected due to deep decay, trauma, or cracks, root canal therapy can remove the infection and preserve the natural tooth.

During the procedure, the infected pulp is carefully removed, the inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected, and the root canal space is sealed to prevent further infection. In many cases, the tooth is then restored with a dental crown to strengthen and protect it.

With modern dental techniques and anesthesia, root canal treatment is a safe and comfortable procedure that helps patients maintain their natural teeth and avoid extraction.

1. Examination and Diagnosis
Your dentist will examine the affected tooth and may take dental X-rays to determine the extent of the infection and the condition of the root canals.

2. Local Anesthesia
The area around the affected tooth is numbed with local anesthesia to ensure that the procedure is comfortable and pain-free.

3. Removal of Infected Pulp
A small opening is made in the tooth to access the pulp chamber. The infected or damaged pulp tissue is carefully removed.

4. Cleaning and Disinfection
The root canals are thoroughly cleaned, shaped, and disinfected to eliminate bacteria and prevent further infection.

5. Sealing the Root Canals
Once the canals are cleaned, they are filled and sealed with a specialized biocompatible material to protect the tooth.

6. Final Restoration
In many cases, a dental crown is placed over the treated tooth to restore its strength, function, and natural appearance.

Benefits of Root Canal Treatment

Preserves Your Natural Tooth
Root canal therapy allows you to keep your natural tooth rather than removing it.

Relieves Pain and Infection
By removing the infected pulp, the procedure eliminates the source of pain and infection.

Restores Function
After treatment and restoration, the tooth can function normally for chewing and biting.

Protects Overall Oral Health
Treating infection early helps prevent the spread of bacteria to surrounding teeth and tissues.

You may require root canal treatment if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Severe tooth pain, especially when chewing or biting

  • Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold

  • Swelling or tenderness in the surrounding gums

  • Darkening or discoloration of the tooth

  • Persistent gum infection or abscess near the tooth

If you notice these symptoms, early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent the infection from spreading and improve the chances of saving the tooth.
