Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars that typically emerge in the late teens or early twenties. In many cases, there is not enough space in the mouth for them to grow properly, which can lead to various dental problems.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction Procedure

Wisdom tooth extraction may be recommended for the following reasons:

  • Impaction (teeth trapped under the gums or jawbone)

  • Pain or swelling

  • Infection or gum disease

  • Tooth decay in hard-to-clean areas

  • Damage to adjacent teeth

  • Cyst or tumor formation (rare cases)

Recovery and Aftercare

After the extraction, proper care is important for healing:

  • Bite gently on gauze to control bleeding

  • Apply ice packs to reduce swelling

  • Take prescribed medications as directed

  • Avoid smoking, alcohol, and strenuous activity for a few days

  • Eat soft foods and maintain gentle oral hygiene

Most patients recover within a few days to a week.
